In 2008, Compass Recycling set out to do what no other large disposal / recycling company has been able to accomplish – provide an affordable and convenient recycling service to companies of any size in San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Schertz and Seguin, Texas. Compass' Office Recycling Program accepts all types of paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and plastic beverage bottles (see complete listing). In less than 3 years, over 500 businesses have joined our program. We transformed the phrase "Why Recycle" to "Why Not".

Description of Compass' Office Recycling Program:

First

Waste paper is collected from individual work stations and are emptied into Compass’ two-wheeled collection carts (see above). Collection carts are conveniently located within the business as determined by customer. Compass provides a sufficient quantity of carts to make it through the chosen service frequency (usually 2 to 4 weeks). Desk side containers are available through Compass.

Second

On scheduled pick-up day, Compass collection carts are positioned at a designated location outside the building. If customer is not comfortable with moving carts into position, Compass can arrange to have our driver retrieve them.

Third

Compass' route driver empties contents into recycling compaction truck and places empty collection cart(s) back to their designated location for customer to bring back inside.

Recycling Sensitive Information

At Compass Recycling, we treat all waste paper documents collected in our office recycling program as "sensitive". Our recycling customers can appreciate peace-of-mind in knowing that all collected paper documents are brought to our secure processing plant in New Braunfels, TX and do not touch human hands again once it is baled. It is also important to understand that the natural hydrapulping process at the paper mill completely disintegrates and de-inks waste paper into a pulp slurry which is the equivalent of muddy water. As one considers the security threats associated with "dumpster diving" espionage and blowing papers at open landfills, one can quickly realize that in addition to all of the environmental benefits associated with recycling, Compass' office recycling program offers a more secure disposal option than standard waste disposal methods.

"Stealing trash is not illegal. The Supreme Court ruled in 1988 that once an item is left for trash pickup, there is no expectation of privacy or continued ownership". [California v Greenwood, 1988]. "In essence, the garbage that one can recover is covered by salvage laws and the rules of salvage are that whatever one recovers is theirs."
